Sheriff Jeff Wiley of the Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office has reported the arrest of two Baton Rouge men for the murder of Gerald “Butta” Wilkins that occurred on Saturday, January 12th on LV Road in Sorrento. “Wilkins was found shot to death on the side of the road in what appeared to be an execution style slaying”,  Wiley said. The victim was also from Baton Rouge and had a listed address of 1123 N. Sabine Drive, Baton Rouge. According to Sheriff Wiley, a team of detectives were able to determine that the suspects, Calvin “Dirt” Williams and Cecil “Unc” Beals, were associates of the victim and that all three were together in Baton Rouge just prior to the homicide. “They drove into Ascension Parish, got gas at a local filling station, drove to LV Rd, committed the murder, then returned to Baton Rouge,” Wiley indicated. “We also know that in this same time frame, the suspects made several unanswered calls to a local resident who lives on Panama Rd near its intersection with LV Road,” Wiley said. Detectives questioned the resident, 37-year-old Shawn Aikens, and also ran a search warrant at his home on the January 15. During the search, drugs and guns were found and he was charged with possession of marijuana, possession of CDS, and illegal carrying of a weapon. Wiley indicated that the motive for the murder was unclear but that the suspects were obviously involved in the illegal drug trade. He also noted that the suspects have extensive criminal records. According to Wiley, Williams is a convicted felon who has been arrested 21 times since 1993 including an arrest in 2006 for attempted 2nd degree murder and in 2007 for first-degree murder and three counts of attempted first-degree murder. His arrest record indicates he has also been arrested several times for robbery, armed robbery, and drug charges. Wiley said that Beals has been arrested 29 times since 1978 and he is also a convicted felon. His arrest record includes charges of burglary, theft, forgery, and drug charges. Beal’s, 53, of 9429 Avis Avenue Baton Rouge was arrested on January 18th by Ascension Parish detectives and was booked into the Ascension Parish jail on one count of 2nd degree murder. At the time of his arrest, he was being held in the East Baton Rouge Parish Jail for failure to appear in court for a traffic violation.
